Cauterets, a village and mountain to discover without moderation

Sport, well being and discoveries

As a thermal and ski resort, Cauterets attracts visitors all year round. If you appreciate the charm and uniqueness of mountain villages, this is the place to stay.

You will love strolling around and discovering the delicious treats that have made it famous. We're talking about its famous "berlingots" candies, with their sweet scent that attracts both young and old.

The local market welcomes you every day, offering a variety of mountain products to taste. Pyrenean cheeses, honey and jams, local wines, and cured meats will delight your taste buds.
As for the mountain, it is an irresistible attraction with its numerous lakes and famous hiking trails in the National Park, such as Vignemale and Oulettes de Gaube.

In summer, Cauterets, Pont d'Espagne, and the Fruitière valley offer access to countless marked trails within and outside the Pyrenees National Park.

In winter, the Lys ski resort, accessible by cable car, delights downhill skiing enthusiasts.

Pont d'Espagne, at the gateway to Marcadau and the Vignemale massif, is dedicated to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, and also offers an introduction to Biathlon. The Gaube Lake chairlift also provides access to a groomed blue slope through the fir trees, perfect for beginners in downhill skiing.

During your sporty or family hikes, you may encounter many herds of cows and sheep, as well as chamois and marmots, living in a protected environment with exceptional flora and fauna.

In the neighbouring valleys, you can visit famous sites such as Gavarnie, the Brèche de Roland, and Mont Perdu for the more adventurous.

And because we are in the kingdom of climbers, you can tackle the legendary ascents of Tourmalet, Aspin in the Campan valley, or closer by, Soulor and Aubisque.

For recovery, there's nothing better than immersing yourself in thermal waters. With Les Bains du Rocher, you can enjoy their benefits.

Jacuzzis, saunas, and steam rooms can be part of your wellness and fitness vacation. Whirling and soothing waters, personalised treatments, and massages from around the world will ensure your well-being. Recovery and serenity guaranteed!

In terms of healthcare, the Thermes de César (in the centre of Cauterets) and Thermes des Griffons (located in La Raillère) specialise in respiratory and rheumatology treatments, as well as the Pavillon des Enfants dedicated to ENT (ear, nose, and throat) care.

With the outdoor market on Fridays and the covered market halls, you can meet local producers of honey, cured meats, cheeses, pies, and cakes on sticks… Not to mention the many shops in the city centre offering delicious berlingots and other delights to discover.

Numerous restaurants will enable you to sample some local specialities.

Looking for adventure? Whatever the season, there is always something to discover in the Gavarnie valleys, of which Cauterets is a part. There are numerous options for both young and old, and as a family you can share unforgettable moments.

  • The Pic du Midi, accessible from the Tourmalet resort and La Mongie via the pass of the same name.
  •   The Abbey of Saint Savin on the way to Lake Estaing.
  •   Hautacam and its summer activities such as Mountain Luge, Dévalkart, and other fun activities.
  •  The Pyrenees Park in Argeles Gazost, with its wolves, bears, marmots, and other protected species.
